As I was perusing the Pinterest Home Decor page today, I saw this bedroom and it stopped me in my tracks. I just wanted to climb right into this bed. I also love that the lamps and side tables are different heights, but it works with the light of the lamps being at the same level. I’m still working on my ability to mix patterns within the same space as this room does so well.
Upon finding the original source (www.garyriggshome.com/interiors), I discovered that every bedroom on the designer’s page gave me the same feeling. While some of them are a little too decorated for my taste, there are certain design elements in each one that draws me in. A few of them have a very masculine-woodsy-cigar room vibe…and I’m totally diggin’ it.
As for the room above, I don’t know that Hubby would be super excited about the yellow, but I am going to hold on to this one for inspiration once we purchase our next home. The walls are neutral though, so I may attempt it in the rental we’ll be living in for the next six months. Maybe I can find a way to work in my current obsession – navy-and-white horizontal stripes; or navy-and-white chevron. I know chevron is all the rage right now, but I’ve loved it since I saw a designer (I believe her name was Loni?) on Design Star do it on one wall. I don’t remember which season that was, but I haven’t had cable in almost 3 years so it was a while ago. Before Baby A was born, I had time to keep up with it by watching online, but that’s not really a possibility right now.

A few weeks ago I made a pillow for my mother-in-law. It was a spur of the moment thing. I am making new slipcovers for my dining room chairs and had a scrap piece of fabric that was the perfect size. I dug through my stash and found the lace trim. At first, my plan was to cover the entire front with the trim, but after making a few rows, I envisioned something else. I embroidered the phrase “I hope you dance…” on it because that song is one of her favorites. It has a lot of meaning: she and my husband danced to it at our wedding; soon after that she began living on her own for the first time in many, many years; and after living near us since then, she is starting a new adventure again by buying a house near the beach many miles away from us. Through various trials and tribulations, but also a great many joys, the words of this song serve as a reminder that this world has so much to offer and we need to live life to the fullest.
I think she is going for a neutral-colored-textural feel in her new bedroom, so I thought this would look nice.
I (of course) didn’t take pictures during the process because I didn’t know where I was going with it. I have already sent it to her, so she did me a favor and took pictures for me to post.

Sometime last year, I came across this list of classical education books. It has been a great resource in our homeschooling adventures. It can be sorted by grade level or author. I actually copied it (and will email to anyone interested) into Excel so that I may sort it by title as well. I love going to thrift stores, so I wanted to be able to print it out to fit into my planner and then I could look up the books as I came across them in the store.

Hubbs and I wanted to make sure that we took the kids to the Smithsonian before we moved out of VA. We got the opportunity earlier this week and we really had a fun time. The weather was good, everyone was in a good mood, and it was a weekday so it wasn’t terribly busy. Our main focus was the Air & Space Museum.
The following model was neat to see since we recently watched the newest version of The Three Musketeers. The description read:

After leaving the Air & Space Museum, we walked down to the Natural History Museum. Our oldest son LOVES all things dinosaur and space related.
Our youngest son is really into ocean life and sea creatures right now. He is actually looking forward to science this year. I’m not sure if I should be grateful or stressed since this will be my first year teaching it to them. He has high expectations.
Baby A did really well all day, but by 3:30 pm, she was done.
The museum had a section of nature photography and this photo stopped me in my tracks. It is stunning in person. Maybe I can get a copy for our new home :)!

All in all, it was a great trip and one that I’m glad we took the time to make before we leave VA. The boys had an awesome time. Washington, D.C. is really a beautiful city.
So, I mentioned before that Hubby had a couple of interviews in Knoxville last week. They went really well and he was offered one of the jobs at a great facility. The other facility liked him as well, but he interviewed for a full-time position and as it turns out, the person whose spot he was applying for is no longer transferring, so the position turned into PRN. We are so excited about the move!
Let me clarify, we are excited about getting to TN, but not excited about the moving process. Not to mention he begins working there one week after his assignment ends here. But, “it will all work out.” Or so people keep telling me. It may not seem that way right now, but I’m sure it will.
I’m really over moving. Doing the travelling thing was fine when the companies provided furnished housing, but moving all of us plus our stuff is for the birds. We have a whole storage unit full of stuff that it is very tempting to just put a garage sale sign in front of or tell the owners to do one of those storage auctions. Every time we go to put more stuff in, I say to Hubby, “Are you sure we really need this stuff?” He says we do, and we can’t replace it for the cost of moving it, and it’s really nice, and blah, blah, blah. This is where I turn into a two-year-old and start throwing myself on the ground and kicking my feet and screaming while holding my hands over my ears.
Well, not really, but I feel like it.
So, we will move it all again, but hopefully, for the last time. We have been looking for a home to buy, but will probably rent for a few months until we can get a feel for the area and pick something we love. There are many available that would “work”, but I don’t want to settle and then be unhappy in three years (it’s been known to happen…I’m just saying is all). The kids are demanding requesting a place with enough big trees for a tree house and a creek or pond. I mean, yeah, those are part of my conditions too. I want a tree house.

***UPDATED: I thought I should clarify, I didn’t make the biscuits this way. They were store-brand canned biscuits that we cooked. This one got flipped over and we saw this smiling face. We checked the others that were left and no others had smiley faces on them.
