Daily Favorite Pin – IKEA Spice Rack “Bookshelves”…

If you know me well, you know I am quite the book hoarder.  It doesn’t matter if the books are for me, the boys, Baby A, or gifts I might give sometime later on.  I hope to instill the same love of reading in our children.  I’m working on the boys, but they are kind of hit or miss.  Baby A loves books right now and I want to keep that interest alive.  Once we move into our new home I want her to have her books on display so that she can reach for whichever one she wants.  I saw this on Pinterest and think it is a great idea.

Here is my favorite “pin” from Pinterest yesterday:

Homeschool Curriculum

For anyone that may be interested, I added a page at the top listing what our homeschool curriculum plan is for this year.  I will add more to it as the year progresses and we figure out what is working and not working for us.

31 Ways to Pray

I came across this link on Pinterest and think it is a great inspiration.  We need to pray specifically and individually for our children.  The article references thirty-one bible verses to use each day of the month.  I believe that our prayers should not be mechanical and something we say so many times that it becomes second nature, but these verses will be used as a guide at first and put in my mind different prayers that my children need.

Pinterest addiction…

Hi, my name is Julie and I’m addicted to Pinterest.  (“Hi, Julie!”)

What a wonderful idea this website is!  It took a while for me to get on board, but once I did…I can’t stop.  Feel free to check out my page at:

Update…

We haven’t been up to much around here lately.  Last weekend, Hubby, Baby A, and I met my mom, dad, sister, nephew, Bobo, and Bubbie in Knoxville.  Our boys had been in Florida for about four weeks visiting.  We had a lot of fun over the weekend, but we were there for other reasons as well.  On Monday, Hubby had two interviews with a couple of hospitals.  We are so excited!  We are praying to get an answer soon.  We know that they called for references, so that is a good sign.  We’re just really ready to be settled and in what we hope is our “forever home” (to use a pet adoption phrase).  His contract with the current nursing facility is up at the end of this month.  The Lord knows we like to do things spur-of-the-moment and at-the-last-minute!  HE is just answering our prayers the way we normally live…maybe we will have to change that in the future.  I’m only a little stressed.  I mean, party of five, a large dog, storage full of stuff – no biggie!  I’ve got this.  If only the little food fairy and cleaning fairy would come take care of things while I was sleeping, it may be easier.  But, we are all together; we are happy; we are healthy; and we continue to be so blessed!

Here are a couple of pics I took when my parents visited at the beginning of June.  We took a ride over to Washington, D.C.  My dad really wanted to see the Vietnam memorial.  I love this shot of him:

Dress for Baby A

*Edited with  pics of Baby A at the end.

A week or so ago, I came across this dress on Pinterest.  I loved it and wanted to make one for Baby A for the 4th of July.  Well, here is my version:

I hope to get some pics of her wearing it posted soon.  I just finished it an hour or so ago and she has long been asleep.  The ruffles don’t show very well in this pic, but are very evident in person.

This dress was super fun to make.  It challenged me.  I have only made a couple of clothing items and each time I had a specific pattern to use.  Cami over at Tidbits said it was more of a “how-to” than a tutorial.  Whenever I would reference her post, I couldn’t help but think of the first Pirates of the Caribbean when Barbossa says “the code is more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than actual rules.”  Anyhoo, her “guidelines” were great and the idea fabulous.

This was my first time sewing with knits.  I have put it off because I was intimidated, but it was not as hard as I had thought.  I will probably use them much more often now.  I really like that you don’t have to hem everything!  I hope to make another dress using this design again soon.  I will definitely use different colors of fabric for the ruffled part though; more like what Cami has done (check out these other versions of the dress).  I also just winged the sleeves.  I was really putting too much thought and stress into it until finally I just started cutting and eyeballing it.  I think it worked out well.

I’ve made a couple of other things for A in the last couple of weeks and hope to post pics of those soon too.

See ya on the flip side!

Action pictures!  This little one is no poser.  She is full action all the time.  If she sees me with the camera, she runs towards me as fast as she can saying, “Cheese!”  As soon as she reaches me, she turns around and rushes back to whatever it was she was doing.  I’m getting a lot of pics with her head cut off.  Doesn’t she know her Momma loves to take pictures?  She’s gonna have to learn.

The dress fits very well.  However, she inherited her 98 percentile head from both sides of the family and I will need to make the neck hole slightly larger next time.  It will work through July 4th, but probably not much longer after that.  Without further ado, the “business in the front, party in the back” dress:

Catching up…

I know it has been a while since I’ve posted.  I go through fazes where I don’t even want to look at the computer or my cell phone.  So now, I’m catching up on things.

Around Mother’s Day, Tom’s mom came for a visit.  We had a great time visiting, hiking and shopping.  While she was here, we came across a neat little beach area along the river for the kids to swim.  It is so pretty here.

Here are some pics from her visit:

While going through these pictures, I realized that she is as bad as me.  We’re hardly ever in the pictures because we are holding the cameras!

Our humble abode…

We moved into our new (temporary) home in the middle of April.  It is a cute and comfortable place.  It is so green and lush around us.  We are living on Lake Monticello in Virginia.  Not ON the lake, but within the lake community.  It is a smaller house than are use to, but the rooms are a good size and the layout is good.  Also, less for me to clean.  We have less stuff here.  It’s amazing what you realize you don’t need when there isn’t room for it.  We have been purging all kinds of things.  Luckily, there is a thrift store near the lake that I am able to donate it all to without holding on to it for too long.

There is a creek that runs along the back of the house, about 15 feet from the house actually, and the boys love to play in it.  They have spent a number of hours already catching crawdads and tadpoles.

Overall, we are getting into the groove of things.  We began doing our schooling again yesterday.  The boys gave me the “ugh, we HAVE to do school???” attitude, but got over it after a few minutes…well, like 45 minutes, but once they saw it was getting them no where, they straightened up.

See ya tomorrow!

P.S. Now that we are back on schedule, I will try to start posting again regularly.

Too early, Baby A…

This little one woke up in the middle of the night and got up way too early!  I know she is still adjusting like the rest of us, but Momma is tired.

So, she gets up early and takes off down the hall.  I call her to come back and after a few seconds I hear the pitter-patter of her little feet coming towards me.  She pops into the doorway and with a “look what I’ve gotten into” “surprise!” look on her face wearing her little hat and holding a red Solo cup and a glass tumbler, all of which were on the dining room table.

We’re gonna have to watch this one.

My dear Granny…

My family is suffering a great loss right now.  My sweet, loving, full of grace Granny passed yesterday.  Right now, there are no words except “We love you and you will be missed dearly.”
